Seeing as a few of you have asked me how it went, I’ll tell you. Excellent, you should have parted with fifteen quid and gone.
For those who don’t know, City Branch hosted a reception on Monday night with the Party Chairman Francis Maude. It was at Bar One Ten, a stylish bar on Colmore Row not far from the Council House. Punchy Rum cocktails were served to begin with, followed by canapés. Francis Maude spent a while mingling with members and then spoke to members anticipating a Conservative comeback in Birmingham. Deirdre Aldern, Edgbaston Councillor and Parliamentary candidate and Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham Council also dropped in to talk to members. There was a very good turnout as well and the atmosphere was lively and festive. Thanks must go to the City Branch for organising such a great event for Birmingham Conservatives. It was an excellent evening. I managed to spend a few minutes discussing “party business” with Francis Maude, who was very keen to speak to every member present. Having met Francis before at conference earlier in the year, I was delighted to see that he recalled our meeting. He is a great bloke who is a credit as our Party Chairman.
The evening was not all about party business though. It was also an opportunity for us hard working soles to let our hair down- and this we certainly did. Naturally, it was helpful that both myself and Dan were provided with a fair share of alcohol by various members of both Birmingham City Branch and members of Birmingham Conservatives. But both of us also digged deep into our pockets in order to return the favour. The evening was also made easier by the fact that there were a couple of fine, attractive, non-Conservative young ladies for me and Dan to chat and dance (perhaps even flirt with in the case of yours truly) with. But truth be told it was a good evening of mingling with City Branch members and dancing to classic tunes of yesteryear courtesy of a disco.
Credit goes to City Branch Chairman Peter Smallbone, deputy Dave Fazakerley, Treasurer Nick Cursi and Social Secretary Louise Best for all organising such fun and enjoyable events as Committee of City Branch Birmingham, throughout the last 12 months.
Here is to many more and for a continued strong relationship with CF here at Birmingham.
Hopefully more CF members can come along to next month’s City Branch drinks evening.
All the best for Xmas and the New Year everyone.

Thanks for the great feedback. I’m sure that everyone had a fabulous time. It was good to catch up with Francis Maude and Mike Whitby – I’ve been particularly impressed with Mike’s recent efforts to create trade links with China. Francis spoke positively about the evening, and his call for activists to help with May’s elections was motivational.
The excellent support from BUCF was much appreciated, and it didn’t go unnoticed that you were among the last to leave!
I must again thank Louise and Nick for making the event such a success.
